The Unit was formed in September 2012 and meets on Wednesday nights within the London Borough of Bexley.
The Explorer Scout section is the 4th age group within Scouting and is for those aged 14 to 17. Full details of all of the different sections can be found at: http://scouts.org.uk/what-we-do/scouting-age-ranges/ Explorer Scouts are aged between 14 and 17 years old. As with the other Sections there is flexibility in the age ranges and members can join from age 13½. Members must have left the Explorer Scout section by the date of their 18th birthday. If you are already a Scout with one of our most local Scout Troops –3rd Barnehurst, 4th Bexleyheath, 5th/7th Bexleyheath, 1st Bridgen and Old Bexley – then we will always be in contact with your Scout Leaders to see who is coming to the upper end of their Scout Troops, invite older Scouts to ‘link events’ and liaise with the Scouts and the Scout Leader to discuss the best time for you to leave Scouts and hopefully move on to join us at Black Prince between the ages of 13½ and 14½. The Unit is open to everyone – we have members who belonged to other Scout Troops, some who were Guides and some who never belonged to either before becoming an Explorer Scout. If you are interested in joining the Unit please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
The Unit Programme is planned by the Unit Exec which is made up of around half a dozen Explorer Scouts plus the Leadership team.
Our structure and meetings are quite flexible as we realise that Explorers will have other commitments, exams, etc. during the year.
For those activities where we do need definite numbers in advance we use Online Scout Manager for Explorers / parents to sign up.
